The City of London is the principal financial district for the whole of the UK.
To the west of the City of London lies the West End. This is the main shopping and entertainment district in London. Famous shopping areas such as Oxford Street are located here.
West London is a huge residential area. Exclusive residential neighbourhoods such as Notting Hill and Kensington can be found here.
The old industrial area of London was the East End where the docks were once located. Nowadays, Park Royal in northwest London is the centre of industrial and business activity. Over 40,000 people are employed in this area.
There are 8 royal parks in the centre of London including Hyde Park and Regent's Park. These parks provide an important recreational resource for the city. The Olympic Park, built to the eat of the city for the 2012 Olympic Games, has been redeveloped to create excellent facilities for the former run-down industrial area.
