    Leaving cert poetry questions? GraceOD

For the exam, what exactly should I learn about each poem? Should I learn the themes and a summary or the images and language and stuff ?

no you don't need to know much about the poet, just their name. you need to know the themes, expression (friotal), about the poem (stanzas, alliteration, similes ect.) and images :)

Wudn't bother with the poems for higher level, Learn the essays and oral irish thats where the majority of marks are going.

You need to know 5/6 points about the poet incase it is asked directly, you also need to write about 1.5 pages for your exam 1 is too short.

What kind of questions could you get asked?

generally they're questions on the emotions in the poem, atmosphere and then you can get questions like suíomh an dáin and such.

I depends on the poem but usual topics are: an file, íomhanna, codarsnacht, atmaisféar, siombail, mothúcháin, meafar, pearsantú (Géibheann), téama, suíomh, Cén sort duine é/í, tabhtacht na lúibíni (mo ghrá-sa), teicníochtaí fileata, logainmneacha (spailpín), dúlra, friotal, mar a chuaigh an dán i gcion ortsa (how the poem effected you personally). For honours you need to be able to give your own opinion on things. Look at the past papers they will give you a good idea on it. There is only 5% going for poetry so don't get too bothered by it!
