First I just want to say, calm down!😃 If I'm correct both of you are going into 3rd Year in September, right? Your teacher will explain exactly what the journal is and how to fill it in in class. I didn't even know what it was before I started 3rd Year, you have plenty of time.
To put your minds at ease, I'll explain what it is. Basically each year the SEC releases a number of project titles to choose from. For example one of the titles this year is:
"A study of how religious belief is expressed in the main features of a place of prayer associated with one of the following world religions: Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam or Judaism. "
Depending on how your school does it, you either each pick individual titles or the whole class picks one title. Then you do a short project on it. Your teacher will then mark and grade it. And then using this project, you'll fill out your religion journal booklet. It basically just asks what your project was about, how you carried it out, what you learnt from it etc. You'll probably do a draft or two that your teacher will correct and then using these corrections you'll do your final draft after Easter or so, which will count towards your final grade,
The school then keeps the booklets in the safe until the day of the JC Religion Exam. After the exam your written exam paper and journal will be put in the same envelope and then will be sent off to get corrected. The journal is worth 20% of your final grade and the written exam is 80%.
Sorry for the long explanation but I hope you understand what is is now! It may sound a little daunting but it's not bad at all. If you put a some effort in it can be an easy way to get 20%. Your teacher will be there to guide you and help you fill it in, that's what they're for!
Enjoy the rest of your summer for now, the JC doesn't start until September!
Thank you for the very detailed response Daisy. I'm having a problem about the journal. We started preparing/writing something like the journal, and it was meant to be on a Jewish Synagogue that all of my class went to, except me.. I had a hospital appointment. My teacher said she doesn't know what to do with the fact that I didn't go, and she said now I can't really write about it because I wasn't there etc. I really don't know what's going to happen but I'll ask her what to do when I get back to school.
