IS LC CHEMISTRY THAT EASY?

So i started studying chemistry by myself at this time in 6th year as I found it really interesting plus it will also help me to get into my college course plus some overlap with physics and biology I do. So far in like a week i managed to get through 8 chapters alone and im not having any major problems. Is it just me or is a chemistry a really handy and nice subject when you understand (used a lot of youtube videos aswell like tyler dewitt who explains it really good). Or am i in store for something really difficult? Pleaswe can anyone relate or advice me

First few chapters are pretty easy as it just explains the history of the atom etc. but as you move along through the course it will get quite complex.....but I'm sure you can manage. Did you pick up Chemistry during December or did you start before?

I started a like the first 3 chapters ages ago but gave up then I came back to it last week and now I'm just flying through it and Ive done a good chunk of the course like 9 chapters out of 24. I'm just scared I'm fooling myself into thinking its easy and then I will slip up when it gets more complex

I'm starting acids and bases now

It does get complicated but dont worry, just practice exam papers, and you'll be fine. Good luck!

It does get quite difficult at certain parts so if your really planning on taking the exam I say find some friends who do chem and ask questions. The marking scheme is your biggest enemy as it can get quite specific at times. Make yourself a mock paper on all the topics you have done without looking at the questions first (get someone else to help you check there's no info in the questions you haven't covered.) They really ask for proper understanding of the syllabus in recent years even more so considering the incoming course changes. If you have the time, go ahead but don't be overwhelmed when heavier topics come in.

it gets rough difficult and horrid

Can someone give me an idea of the harder topics?
Dooley7389
The hardest concepts and things like that. to give you an idea of where i am .. redox reactions balancing equations. I think that could be as hard as i come across so far

Chemistry is not hard to understand if u picture everything in ur head u are going to be fine but my advice do not use the questions from the book as a guide always practice exam papers as that will help u

It does get more complex, but I do feel it is one of the more rewarding subjects out there. Getting a question right in topics such as stochiometry is very satisfying

exam questions are what i stuggle with not the topics

good luck mate.

I really don't think anyone should say a subject is easy when you're less than a quarter through it

i agree with you 100% Dnulty. if all courses were cut down to 25% we'd all be getting 625

I appreciate your reply Pevoy. I feel like we could be friends, if only we knew each other

just practice exam qs for the calculations. If you're able to those then you're fine.

If you plan on doing lc Chem by yourself i would recommend buying leaving certificate exam edge chemistry. It contains all exam questions based on each chapter so you can test yourself at the end of each chapter with relevant questions. It also has the marking scheme underneath so you can easily check your answers!!!!!

the first few chapters are ok because its mainy history of the atom and atomic theory i personally found organic chemistry the toughest section of the course

the calculations will be tough to do yourself as they take a while to understand and if you do them the way in the book you wont get marks as the chief examiner is strict enough on that

Certainly would be worried about your lack of engagement with practicals, as a thorough knowledge of experimental operations is needed to secure a good grade at honours level. Have you secured a place that will allow you to carry out the mandatory practicals?

the expierments are online look them up even if you cant find any email me ill send it to u plus yes it is handy like if u know ur orgnaic chemistry very well and organic particles and do past questions on both u will be set worth up to 40 perecnt a least two questions everyyesr plus u will have eqlbrrium question or a half plus question 4 shoert questions q 5 atom and perdoic table history wats hard is titrations which is q 1 everyyear and the calaclations stiockmoetry
Joelsogi0099
make sure you know how to do all the titration calculations and id advice starting organic as soon as possible as it can be half your paper and in general it is just memory work . ..do eaxam questions

just wait till you find out about organic chemistry...

agreed @timogrady1 some people

a lot of questions in the exam can be about practicles so make sure you look them up in past papers, things like why you did certain things with equipment and the role of something in an experiment and colour changes and observations
