How long should a H1/H2 essay be?

All my essays are around 4 and a half to 5 pages, is this long enough?

yeah plenty long enough , its more about proving your argument by brining in facts and showing your thoughts and knowlege on the topic.

yep! my teacher said to do 4 pages.

Honestly I'd be aiming for a lot more then four pages if you want a H1 unless your handwriting is tiny. Mine are usually about six and a half.

How can you possibly write 3 six a4 pages within the time?

paragraphs are what'll get you marks moreso than the number of pages, aim for at least 10 paragraphs I'd say (break up longer ones into two as one 8 mark paragraph could become two 6-markers if you break it up, thus making the same amount of info worth more)

it's not that hard to write six and a half pages in forty two minutes. if you really think you cant do it then just write as much as you possibly can i suppose.

no it’s not long enough.

do they not mark all your paragraphs out of 12 and then just pick your best 5

@Mollieocarroll no not at all... whoever told you that is point blank wrong. all your paragraphs are counted.

I managed 7-7.5 pages per essay last week but my habdwritting is above average and i finished the doccument in just under 30 minutes including contextualisation

4 pages is a rough estimate if you have average sized hand writing, 5 if you have large writing and in exam situations with your hand aching you could write 6 as your writing gets even bigger under stress, i would say dont aim for page numbers. Instead aim for 8 paragraphs for the body of your essay and a conclusion and intro paragraph on top of that. The 8 paragraphs tend to be shorter, to the point and more factual. Always remember to include a topic sentence connecting your argument to the paragraphs. If you are like me and short paragraphs arent for you then i I say write around 6 long paragraphs and the intro and conclusion. For reference ive never gotten below a h1.

As a repeat student for a H2/H1 you'd need to be writing 5 pages(10 Paragraphs) within 42 minutes, and you must do this 3 times along with studying a two-page essay for contextualisation

I was told 3-4 A4 pages and that quality was over quantitiy

It really depends on how strong your paragraphs are. I can get a H1 with 3/4 pages, getting 8,9, and 10s per paragraph, but then my friend can get it with 5 pages with 6,7,8 and 9s per paragraph. It's better exam wise to write better paragraphs, than longer essays imo.

I got a H1 in History and this was mostly down to to the great abilities of my teacher. He recommended to do 8 paragraphs which includes both your opening and closing paragraphs. Your opening paragraph is also marked the same as all other paragraphs as well now so its worthwile spending time on it. If ur aiming for high marks you'd want to be hitting over 4 or 5 pages. Sometimes when you get flow and you know your stuff ayou could end up writing 6 or 7 pages for each essay. Also watch the time and try and do each essay in 40-45 mins with a paragraph for every 5 mins or so.

Also when preparing the day before dont write too much because you need to keep your hand fresh.
