Technology for Leaving Cert 2021

This is my first step to investigate if my son, who is in transition year, could take up technology now for the leaving cert in 2021. I'm not familiar with the syllabus. I'm and electronics and IT professional and would be able to teach my son programming and electronics and electrical circuits, (1) Does the course focus on these topics or is it much more general than this? any advice?

I believe that there is a partical assiment that is 50% of the total grade which must be supervised and signed off by a teacher.

25% goes towards physical project. 25% goes towards folder/portfolio of specified project. 50% goes towards exam. Programming is not in the exam. Electronics/Electrical Circuits is an option but not required for the Technology exam.

There's a lot of common sense involved so if your son was to pick up a T4 subject this would be the best one to pick up. I swore to myself after the junior cert I wouldn't do technology again and it would be one of my best subjects.

Having done technology for the past 2 years it is without doubt one of my best subjects. If your son has a good work ethic and plans out his practical project and folder in a smart fashion then this subject should be very easy for him, especially with your background. The written exam is the sort of exam where there are key components of the syllabus which you need to learn but equally there is a huge emphasis on critical thinking and many answers require knwoledge outside the book. I found watching youtube videos and keeping up-to-date on emerging technologies to be a very worthwhile means of studying. Overall, if you have a good work ethic and are interested in the world of "Technology" then there is no reason why you shouldn't pick this subject. Be advised however, I personally believe that the time allocated for the practical work, while one of the longest, is still too short. I was working night and day and still barely finished by the deadline and know many who simply did not finish. Just to keep that in mind.

its a really good subject. i used a lot of basic progrmming with a PIC in my project so understanding circuits is also quite important. theres a section on the written paper about electronics and circuits so that would be easy for him with your help. the written exam isnt really very hard though, its mostly project that takes up time.
