The final exam is worth 90% of overall marks. It is a 2 hour paper. There are 9 questions, all of which must be attempted.
Classroom-Based Assessments
There are also two Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs) which take place in second and third year. CBA 1 is titled 'Geography in the News' and CBA 2 is titled 'My Geography'. For CBA 1 students must report on an inquiry, based on a recent media source, that relates to a geographical event. For CBA 2 students must investigate geographical aspects in a local area.
Assessment Task
This will be a written reflection task based on CBA 2 and is worth 10% of overall marks. This may assess the students ability to reflect on their geographical thinking, evaluate new knowledge, and to reflect on the skills they have developed.

Any tips for doing well in Junior Cycle Geography ?
The short questions examine all aspects of the course so it's best not to take short cuts by leaving out sections of the course. Make sure all your diagrams and sketch maps are clearly labelled. Make sure you know how to answer the question on a landform (rivers/sea/glaciers) as one of these comes up every year. Study each topic and then try to answer the questions on Studyclix checking the marking schemes as you go.
