Exam
The written exam is worth 90% of the overall marks. It is a 2 hour paper taken at common level. It is comprised of a listening comprehension (aural), reading comprehension and written production.
Classroom-Based Assessments
Students must complete 2 CBA's: CBA 1 is titled 'Oral Communication' and CBA 2 is titled 'Student Language Portfolio'. For CBA 1, students must demonstrate skills of oral production and interaction. For CBA 2, students will work on a langauge portfolio over the three year Junior Cycle course. This portfolio will include written texts, projects, student reflections, audio-visual material and learning goals.
Assessment Task
This is worth 10% of overall marks. Students must complete a written task in relation to CBA 2.
Any tips for doing well in Junior Cycle German ?
Like all languages it is really important that you work on building your vocabulary as this will help you in the reading comprehension, listening and written part of the paper. Don't forget to prepare for your aural exam by practicing the listening comprehension questions as you listen to the streamed audio clips on Studyclix. Writing out a list of the most common verbs with their english meaning will also come in very handy for all sections of the paper.
