Assessment

Written Exam
This is worth 90% of overall marks. This is a 2-hour common-level paper. The aural component is worth 35% of the overall marks.
Classroom-Based Assessments
Students must complete 2 CBAs. CBA 1 is titled 'Oral Communication and CBA 2 is titled Student Language Portfolio. For CBA 1, students must demonstrate skills of oral production and interaction. For CBA 2, students must develop a language portfolio which will include written texts, projects, learning logs and student reflections.
Assessment Task
This is worth 10% of overall marks and is based on CBA 2. Students must complete a written task that involves reflecting on their experience with CBA 2.
Future Careers
Career opportunities related to Spanish include business, the IT industry, teaching, translation, the hospitality industry, sales, marketing, tourism and careers in the EU.
Any tips for doing well in Junior Cycle Spanish?
Like all languages it is really important that you work on building your vocabulary as this will help you in the reading comprehension, listening and written part of the paper. Don't forget to prepare for your aural exam by practicing the listening comprehension questions as you listen to the streamed audio clips on Studyclix. Writing out a list of the most common verbs with their English meaning will also come in very handy for all sections of the paper.
