Ní féidir é a shéanadh (you cannot deny) go mbaineann an file úsáid as an dúghreann chun an tatmaisféar deas agus éadrom seo a shoiléiriú dúinn trí shearbhas, íoróin agus áibhéil a úsáid chun mugadh magadh a dhéanamh ar an nóisean de leannáin dhathúla fhoirfe atá le brath i bhformhór na seandhánta agus sna meáin inniu (that the author uses dark humor to create a nice and light atmosphere to us through sarcasm, irony and exaggeration to make fun of the notion of perfectly beautiful couples that exist in the majority of old poems and the media today).

Tá an greann rí-shoiléir dom sa chéad rann nuair a dhéanann an file comparáid idir a fhear agus airní (humor is very obvious in the first verse when the author compares her man with coal). I bhfocail eile, tá sí ag insint dúinn nach bláth é (in other words, she is telling us that he is no flower). Tá an file ag déanamh magadh ar na seandhánta grá a chuireadh íomhá fisiceacha daoine i gcomparáid le bláthanna agus gnéithe eile den dúlra (the author is making fun of old love poems that compare people's physical image with flowers and aspects of nature). Déanann Nuala a mhalairt trí bhéim a chur ar lochtanna fisiceacha ach molann sí a phearsantacht (Nuala does the opposite by putting emphasis on physical flaws but she praises his personality). Is cur síos greannmhar é seo ar ghrá geal dar ndóigh ag cruthú atmaisféar taitneamhach agus éadrom don léitheoir (this is a funny description of love inevitably creating an enjoyable and light atmosphere for the reader).

Feicim an dúghreann ag brath go smior sa dara cuid nuair a luann an file bás (I see the dark humour throughout the second verse when the author talks about death). Tá an file ag déanamh masla ar an bhfear, deir sí linn dá mbeadh bláthanna ag fás uaidh, bheadh sé básaithe (the author is making fun of the man, she tells us that if there were to be flowers growing out of him, he would be dead). Is bealach thar a bheith greannmhar é seo chun léiriú dúinn nach bhfuil an fear seo foirfe ach tá grá aici dó ar aon nós, ar bhealach dorcha agus scigiúil atá an-éifeachtach ag cur an greann ina luí orainn i mbealach atá éadrom (this is a very funny way of showing us that the man is not perfect but she loves him anyway, in a dark and mocking way that is very effective at portraying humour to us in a light way).

Faoi dheireadh, is léir don dall go n-úsáideann an file íomhánna magúil dá leannán chun na nóiseanna coinbhinsiúnach den ghrá a fheictear sa litríocht, sna scannáin agus sna meáin atá mar léiriú neamhréalaíoch ar an ngrá a chur os mo chomhair (lastly, it is so obvious that the author uses mocking images of her relationship to portray that conventional notion of the unrealistic portrayal of love that is seen in the media, in literature and movies). Cruthaíonn sé seo cur síos éadrom agus greannmhar ar an ngrá, ag cur le hatmaisféar deas sultmhar (this creates a light and funny description of love, adding to the nice enjoyable atmosphere).

I mo bharrúil, tá úsáid na lúibíní an-éifeachtach sa chaoi go bhfuil áit thábhachtach acu sa dán (in my opinion, the use of the brackets is very effective in that they have an important place in the poem). Feicim i dtosach go bhfuil feidhm acu; tá searbhas ag baint leo i leith dánta grá nósmhara (I see firstly that they have a purpose; there is sarcasm to conventional love poems). Ní raibh sé ceart go leor lochtanna a bheith agat, bhídís ag súil le foirfeacht (it was not okay to have loads of flaws, they were looking for perfection). Áfach, seasann na lúibíní seo do réaltacht an tsaoil agus léiríonn siad nach bhfuil aon rud ná duine ar an saol seo gan locht (however, the brackets stand for the realistic life and they show that there is nothing or no one in life without flaws). Is teachtaireacht iontach tábhachtach é sin, dar liom (this is a very important message, I think).

Chum Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill an dán seo (Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill wrote this poem). Rugadh í i Lancashire, Sasana sa bhliain 1952 (she was born in Lancashire, England in the year 1952). D’fhreastail sí ar an ollscoil i gCorcaigh agus bhain sí céim amach sa mhúinteoireacht (she attended university in Cork and she achieved a degree in teaching). D’fhoilsigh sí a chéad leabhar filíochta, an Dealg Droighin, sa bhliain 1981 (she published her first poetry book, an Dealg Droighin, in the year 1981).
