In this video we look at how plants manipulate the water potential of their roots in order to absorb water from the soil surrounding their roots. We look at the structure of the root, the mechanism of getting water in, transport through the root, and getting water into the xylem. Designed for AS level students studying the AQA specifcation.

Paul Andersen starts with a brief description of diffusion and osmosis. He then describes the diffusion demonstration and how molecules move over time. He then explains the concepts behind the osmosis lab and how potatoes are affected by increasing sucrose molarity.
