More tips on how to get a H1 in Leaving Cert Maths
By Gabrielle Juschiute - 2 minute read
Leaving Cert higher-level maths can often be a subject that many students particularly worry about... But that doesn't have to be the case! With effective revision and the right resources, you can get those extra 25 points. Whether you need tips on changing your attitude towards maths or the best resources for improving your understanding of maths, this guide is for you!
Choose your battles wisely.
While studying for the Leaving Cert higher-level papers, it is best not to attack everything at once. The maths course is huge, and hence it can easily become overwhelming if you don't break it down into smaller pieces.
After all, maths is a skill, so you can't cram everything the night before your exam! Your learning will be a lot more effective if you space out your study, and break down your revision into bitesize pieces.
Exam questions are your new best friend
Maths really is one of the subjects where almost all of your studying and revision should involve going through past exam questions.
Remember: don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way! This may be watching a Studyclix solution video or referring to your notes. This is not a failure; it is active learning!
Know your timings
Timing for the maths papers is very important, you really don’t want to lose out on marks simply because you ran out of time. Luckily, this is avoidable!
Both papers are 2.5 hours long and you must complete two long questions (50 marks) and four short questions (30 marks) for both.
To make sure you don't lose track of time, write your starting time on the top of your page for each question so you know how long you’ve spent on it!
